Well, we did it!! The
bathroom re-model for LilyAnne is finished! I went over a few days ago to take the final photos, and LilyAnne gave me the tour herself. She demonstrated for me how well it works for her, and my heart swelled with happiness. Bronwyn's love shines on!  A BIG HUGE Thank-You to everyone who donated money, time, skills, and support to our project.  You made a difference!

It feels great to be making good progress on our project again, after the delays of the snow storm.  The sheet rock has been hung and is undergoing the taping and mudding process.  Next week we will start painting and tiling!

A Slight Delay

The weather outside has been frightful!  A large snowstorm, followed by an ice storm prevented us from working on LilyAnne's bathroom most of last week, and so I have no new photos of progress to show you.  However, the snow is finally melting and many people have their power restored, so work will resume tomorrow (Wednesday).  In the meantime, here are some pretty pictures of the snow and ice for you to look at!

More Progress

This morning I brought cookies and coffee to the incredible crew: Carlson's Electric and Plumbline Plumbing were there working on the wiring and water lines.  Brandon from Yesterday's Homebuilders roughed in the shower and installed the new window.  The bathroom is starting to take shape, which is so exciting.  Monday is a holiday, so work resumes on Tuesday, after the city comes to approve the work that has been done.  Then the blocking will go in for the grab bars and the sheet rock will get hung.  I'll be sure to post updates on Tuesday.

It Looks Worse Before it Gets Better

Hooray!  The bathroom project is finally underway.  We spent the past two days on removing everything from LilyAnne's old bathroom, in preparation for new plumbing and wiring, which  will happen on Thursday and Friday. How exciting!  Here are some before and during photos.  This first one shows the entryway into the bathroom.  It's a narrow entrance, made narrower by the protrusion of the sink and its cabinet into the walkway.  This is a difficulty for LilyAnne because she cannot maneuver her walker through such a tight space.  To solve this problem, we are widening the doorway and moving the sink to the far wall. 

The next photo is a shot down the length of the room.  You can see that it is quite a skinny room, which we can't change, but with some creative re-arranging I think we're going to have a bathroom that functions really well and looks great to boot.  Everything is going to be happening fast now, and I'll be posting more photos continuously.  Happy 2012 everyone!

Community Strength

I am so proud to belong to such a strong community of caring individuals.  And I don't just mean people right here in my neighborhood, I also mean friends as far away as Maine, Montana, Alaska, and even England and Brazil have given what they can to make something happen here at home for a girl they don't know, in memory of a girl they do.  We've met our fundraising goal, and just in time for Bronwyn's birthday, too!  My heart is filled with gratitude, and that's no small thing for me to feel at this juncture of my life. Many thanks to all of you.  I can't wait to get started on the project!
